What I expected this book to be - a journey for colemara to become a serial killing duo, who murder shaw brutally and then go on the run together hopping from different countries whilst selling art made up of the remains of their victims. wHaT?Īre you telling me mara went from crying about not wanting to kill anyone for 80% of the book and then suddenly killing 3 2 people in the space of a week? 🤍 miss mara acting like a fully-fledged serial killer who kills shaw, poisons her mother & kills some random drunk guy because cole was getting annoyed by him (ok she didn't actually kill him, he pretended but for the sake of my rant lets imagine she did kill him kay?). the way shaw was described as this big giant bull of a man (i just kept picturing him as human shrek), to the way a battered and bruised cole (who escaped from a police car) and is half shaws size managed to take him down. 🖤 the last 20% of the book was literal comedy. listen i would've taken a whole book of shaw killing random people to impress cole, their rivalry was kinda fun, rip to the women tho xxīut then he got given the shittiest death ever! they didn't even make him suffer? cole made randall suffer more than they did to shaw i'm mad!!! seeing mara become the baddest bitch ever and cole realizing the ‘sense of emptiness that plagued him wasn’t the reality of a human condition’ but because he felt empty without his other half aka mara…shit…i was in shambles 😭 this motherfucking killer can be so sweet omfg. The plot was equally interesting and had me on the edge of my seat. my brain short circuited reading just reading those build up scenes. i love cole as much as i love mara and vice versa.Īnd let me pop off for a second with this…the smut…my fucking god that was equally crazy and fun as hell to read. Lark’s writing is refreshing and these characters are so flawlessly complex and deep. we know just enough about mara’s past and fears as we do cole’s and i admire that very much. I think my favorite thing about this book and the dualogy as a whole is the fact that we get equal characterization. i feel like i’ve come alive after reading this dualogy and now i have the power of all the bts stans…hear me out…this book was exhilarating!!! This was so fucking chaotic but fun as hell. RENT WAS DUE, THE ECONOMY WAS CRASHING, PEOPLE WERE STARVING, THE WORLD WAS ON FIRE AND SOPHIE LARK SAVED US ALL!!
